There's only Plasma (wayland) present in the list.

Also, when I start anything on Wayland, the resolution is 1920x1080.
My monitor's resolution is 3840x2160, but the desktop resolution is 1920x1080 and it can't be changed, also the monitor is "unknown".
Plasma especially is "cut off", some pixels on the left and bottom possibly top and right too are missing.

Does the X11 Plasma desktop start if you launch it from the console? Instructions: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/KDE#From_the_console

If it won't start please share the X.Org log from that attempt here.

Does the GNOME Wayland desktop have the correct resolution?

startx with the modifications does start plasma on x11, no issues.

The GNOME wayland desktop does not, or did not.

The issue was I have an Asus w680 ace ipmi board, with the ipmi card, but the aspeed gpu (of that ipmi card) was enabled, which lead to arch not booting past the initial screen,
because nvidia-drm.modeset=1 was set.
Because of that I had to put nomodeset on the kernel command line.
I have now disabled the Aspeed card so that there are no 2 cards present in the system, only the Nvidia RTX 4070.
With that nvidia-drm.modeset=1 lead to a booting arch.

Now, current situation:
- plasma x11 still not present in sddm session list
- Gnome wayland has the correct resolution
- Plasma wayland does seemingly have the correct resolution (it's not blurry), but the left and bottom (possible right and top) sides are still cut.
it doesn't display the desktop or toolbar when started with sddm, only via cli.
- Cinnamon-wayland doesn't start, no matter what
- Cinnamon x11 works aok.

So the issue with the resolution on wayland being locked at 1920x1080 was that the nvidia tainted driver couldn't boot with modeset enabled.

Issues left:
- no plasma x11 in sddm list
- plasma weird viewport on wayland and doesn't start correctly via sddm
- cinnamon wayland not starting

(going for a walk will bbl)

however, this is the default cinnamon-x11 boot (which always worked).

Not sure what the link to the plasma-wayland-session package was doing there.
Did you want me to set plasma-wayland as the default option?

With a motherboard this new, there are some issues, for instance the previously disabled Aspeed GPU enabled itself when I powered on the machine today, despite the jumper being in off position...
So I had to cut it off from power for a few.

Not sure what the link to the plasma-wayland-session package was doing there.

Explain where that's coming from because you only listed /usr/share/xsessions  - do you get offered plasma/X11 if you remove the plasma/wayland session?

I have not tried removing content under /usr/share/wayland-sessions, it didn't even cross my mind.

What might be the reason that sddm would ignore plasma x11? It must be blacklisted somewhere.
I'll see what happens now that I moved it out, I expect x11 not showing up but also no plasma wayland session being present in the list.

Update:
plasma x11 shows on the bottom of the list, but plasma wayland of course doesn't show in the list.

Next Update:
The sddm list is too short to display all the DEs.
I uninstalled openbox and Plasma X11 was rendered in the list at the bottom.

Gnome takes up like 8 slots in this list.

Issues remaining:
- Cinnamon wayland black screen with a blinking cursor top left, aka not started
- Plasma Wayland wrong viewport

You know what, let's leave it at that for now.
I'll create separate threads, I don't think Wayland is there yet and capable of replacing x11.
