[Solved]Unable to login after mindlessly updating .pacnew files

I made the huge mistake of mindlessly overwriting my files with pacnew files using pacdiff and this has resulted in me no longer being able to login through either the login manager or tty.

Several things I have tried that haven't worked in fixing the error -
1. Chroot and changing my user's password
2. Replacing the group, passwd, shadow and gshadow files with their backups stored in /etc and appended with a -.

I am not sure what else I can try. Please help

/etc/shells was broken after the update. Works now.
