Re: No display - Virtual terminal

Please don't bump.
Edit your previous post if nobody has replied so far.

however SDDM would not start due to no display

Remove that config file, you don't have a prime setup anyway.

If you only boot the multi-user.target (2nd link below), does the console output work?
If you then skip SDDM and run "startx" for a simple X11 session (the default will require twm and xterm, otherwise you need to edit the xinitrc, don't start plasma!), can you still switch back to the console?

Re: No display - Virtual terminal

Changing to multi-user just gives me 2 lines after grub, then stuck there

My second GPU allows me to see everything, but without; just that

Re: No display - Virtual terminal

Do you have more luck w/ the main kernel?
I don't like that there's also something wrong w/ the system journal, can you post a complete system journal when using the radeon GPU?

Re: No display - Virtual terminal

The only way I was able to get radeon to show on display is by moving it to the first PCIe slot. Then no problems

Not sure on how dmesg works (Is it only from last boot? also the numbering on the side). But it is still there 'rotating' when I have NVIDIA down as VFIO - I achieved this by creating a separate grub entry, then altering my mkinitcpio to load vfio prior to nvidia drivers

Re: No display - Virtual terminal

dmesg is the kernel ringbuffer, it holds the kernel messages of the current boot at most.

by moving it to the first PCIe slot

You should check your board manual for the PEG slots.
Also make sure to attach all the 6/8-pin power supply cables to the GPUs.

It seems to be related to monitor, as when I unplug my second monitor tty appears

Did you test to set the explicit video modes w/ the nvidia GPU?

Edit you can also disable one of them (see the linked documentation)

Re: No display - Virtual terminal

The bios definitely used to support it. Found it in the manual, too

Looks like subsequent updates to the BIOS have removed the option, though. So it looks like 2nd slot is the only option.

I've managed to pass through the nvidia gpu and got it streaming; which was the original idea. (Having failed with other options - Different TTY/Docker/VIRGL+Sunshine)

It comes with it's own problems though. Not sure if it's due to the age of this graphics card (RV620), but I get some weird display distortion if I attempt full resolution on both monitors + boot (memory, perhaps - If I super reduce resolution, is eliminates this problem - Though to the point of being unusable)

I also have no HDMI audio being picked up

I am wondering if it's worth buying a newer AMD GPU, just to have as my main. Something low powered and able to drive 3440x1440 & 1920X1080 displays, basically for just youtube while I pass the other. At some point I will drop the NVIDIA for AMD, but it looks like VFIO + GPU is the only way I am going to be able to do it
