6GHz coverage: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_W … _802.11be)
Also: sanity check can you find *any* SSIDs (regardless of their frequency) and do other devices (phone etc.) see the 6GHz AP?
What do you use to scan? (iw will likely fail if NM is currently dogging on the NIC, so make sure to stop the latter and also run "iw dev wlp2s0 scan")

I've checked psref and it seems that wifi 6E is only available on Windows 11
Notes:
[1], [2] Wi-Fi 6E full features might be limited by country-level restrictions.
Wi-Fi 6E is only enabled on Windows 11 and operates as Wi-Fi 6 with Windows 10.
6GHz Wi-Fi 6E operation is dependent on the support of the operating system, routers/APs/Gateways that support Wi-Fi
6E, and the regional regulatory certifications & spectrum allocation.
I live in Poland and if I'm correct it is legal to use 6Ghz frequency.
And it seems that my code was wrong.

The lower bands are allowed in all of the EU, but for LPI/VLP only
I guess you got the device from germany?
I can see 6E network but I can't connect to it
Do you have the system journal covering such attempt?

That explains the "wrong" phy#0 domain (and you cannot change that in software), but that doesn't matter itr because both are regulated by the EU frequency rules.
Please don't filter the journal, the NM messages don't cover the carrier (wpa_supplicant or iwd) nor the hardware/kernel/driver.
Just post the entire segment for the relevant timeframe.

If I'm correct netclt doesn't support wpa3 (Network Managers).
iwd freezes when I try to run iwctl, and I don't know (yet) how to configure wpa_supplictant. I checked wiki but I don't fully understand. I'll read few more times and I'll come back here if/when I fail.

I was for iwctl so interactive mode.
But I had to make a mistake because it is working now. But there is another problem.
When NetworkManager is enabled I can see my 6E network. Not sure how much it takes but after some time it disappears from network list.
When I disable and stop NetworkManager and run iwctl station wlan0 scan and then iwctl station wlan0 get-networks I can't see my 6E network

I don't understand you.
As for the
iwd wasn't set up as a backend. After a change, nothing changed - I couldn't even see 6E network
After disabling MAC ar there was no change.
p.s.
I didn't know that MAC address randomization is the default.
When I do ip a, MAC of my Wi-Fi card is always the same. I've been using the macchanger to randomize it.
After wiki reading, I think that
when Wi-Fi card is not connected, and it is scanning for networks, then MAC is random.
When it is connecting to any network, then by default it uses the built-in MAC.
To change this behavior, I could create a config file with:
# Generate a random MAC for each WiFi and associate the two permanently.
wifi.cloned-mac-address=stableIs that correct?

You didn't just literally run "iwctl", it'll either open a shell or you pass a command along.
I'll point out that "ftr, this is now moot because"
But I had to make a mistake because it is working now.
To change this behavior, I could create a config file with:
What you want here is
[device]
wifi.scan-rand-mac-address=noOnce things actually work you may explore efforts to increase privacy w/ "wifi.cloned-mac-address=stable", but we first need to know that your AP deosn't throw a tantrum when you spoof the MAC.
Since you previously had scanning success w/ NM+wpa_sup but couldn't connect and iwd didn't even find the AP in scans, did you try NM w/ the (default) wpa_supplicant backend and MAC randomization disabled?

I will check everything, but only in a week (currently, I don't have access to a 6GHz network).

Ok
I did
wifi.scan-rand-mac-address=no
stopped NetworkManager service
stopped wpa_supplicant service
started iwd.service
started iwctl
iwctl doesn't see my 6E network

You should not even have a running wpa_supplicant service and the plan was to test whether NM + wpa_supplicant + wifi.scan-rand-mac-address=no works.
wifi.scan-rand-mac-address=no + w/o NM is meaningless

Oh sorry,
I started with that.
I changed wifi.scan-rand-mac-address to no and tried to connect with NM, but it didn't help - 6E network was in the networks list but I couldn't connect to it.
Stopping wpa_supplicant service was a habit (I did that with hcxdumptool).
This is my wpa_supplicant status:
systemctl status wpa_supplicant.service
● wpa_supplicant.service - WPA supplicant

Active: active (running) since Sun 2024-01-07 18:33:50 CET; 18min agoI believe that it is active because NM activated it.

Hello there,
Thanks 860lacov and seth for giving so much information.
I am also following this thread because I have a similar issue with 6E Wifi, and I think we have the same laptop (T14s AMD Gen 3 here) with "Qualcomm Technologies, Inc QCNFA765 Wireless Network Adapter (rev 01)" displayed by lspci.
I see in your "iw list" that all your 6G Frequencies are marked as "(disabled)".
My understanding is that 6G wifi can't work if it list all the frequencies this way.
But I may be mistaken ?
Your "global country 00:" show "DFS-UNSET". Which means that it was not able to detect your country.
Usually, if it's not able to detect the country, the device do not activate 6G Frequency, to follow regulation.
But I didn't find why it displays two groups ("global" and "phy#0 (self-managed)") with two different settings.
Does one of you know?
On my side, my country is correctly detected:
iw reg get
global
country FR: DFS-ETSI
(2400 - 2483 @ 40), (N/A, 20), (N/A)
(5150 - 5250 @ 80), (N/A, 23), (N/A), NO-OUTDOOR, AUTO-BW
(5250 - 5350 @ 80), (N/A, 20), (0 ms), NO-OUTDOOR, DFS, AUTO-BW
(5470 - 5725 @ 160), (N/A, 26), (0 ms), DFS
(5725 - 5875 @ 80), (N/A, 13), (N/A)
(5945 - 6425 @ 160), (N/A, 23), (N/A), NO-OUTDOOR
(57000 - 71000 @ 2160), (N/A, 40), (N/A)phy#0 (self-managed)
country FR: DFS-ETSI
(2402 - 2482 @ 40), (N/A, 20), (N/A)
(5170 - 5250 @ 80), (N/A, 23), (N/A), NO-OUTDOOR, AUTO-BW
(5250 - 5330 @ 80), (N/A, 23), (0 ms), NO-OUTDOOR, DFS, AUTO-BW
(5490 - 5590 @ 80), (N/A, 30), (0 ms), DFS, AUTO-BW
(5590 - 5650 @ 40), (N/A, 30), (600000 ms), DFS, AUTO-BW
(5650 - 5730 @ 80), (N/A, 30), (0 ms), DFS, AUTO-BW
(5735 - 5875 @ 80), (N/A, 14), (N/A), AUTO-BW
But all frequencies are disabled:
iw list
Wiphy phy0
[...]
Frequencies:
* 5955 MHz [1] (disabled)
* 5975 MHz [5] (disabled)
* 5995 MHz [9] (disabled)
* 6015 MHz [13] (disabled)
[...]
* 7075 MHz [225] (disabled)
* 7095 MHz [229] (disabled)
* 7115 MHz [233] (disabled)
* 5935 MHz [2] (disabled)
Is the second one the one embedded in the device firmware?
Does it means the device is not capable of 6G because "(5945 - 6425 @ 160), (N/A, 23), (N/A), NO-OUTDOOR" is only visible in the first (global) one?
On your laptop, phy#0 (with country DE:) doesn't list any 6G compatible frequency.
On the working examples I found online, these command outputs are quite different.
Best regards,
Have a great day.

You should™ be able to alter the "global" entry w/ eg. "iw reg set DE"
Are you likewise able to *find* the 6GHz APs but not to *connect* to them?
Offline
Hi seth !
"be able to alter the "global" -> Yes I can, using "reg set". But I don't think it will help as 6GHz frequencies are already displayed in "global".
I tried with DE just to test, FR and DE domain appear identical and the issue remain.
I really wonder if not having these frequencies in the phy#0 part is the issue :-/ .
On my side I am not able to find 6GHz APs, using nmcli or iw. My laptop is only seeing 2.4GHz et 5GHz APs.
I ask Lenovo support for help, will get back to you if we find anything interesting.
Offline
Thsi was just to point out the nature of the different regdomain settings (one's the OS, the other one the HW) and DE and FR are both "EU" itr.
Check for FW updates - the 6GHz band regulation only took place in the last three years (while other standards used bands that have been regulated since basically forever)

Understood, thanks for the tip!
Bios and Laptop firmware are up to date.
Laptop first bios version is 2022/06/24, latest is 2023/09/08
Kernel driver build is from 2022/12/22
France regulation for 6GHz is from 2021/12/07
Germany regulation for 6GHz is from 2021/07/14
Bios Changelog : https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/r22uj65w.txt
Talks about "- (New) Add WiFi 6E for JP."
But no other mention of 6E.
Japan regulation for 6GHz is from 2022/09/08. They were a bit late to the party, so I think it was added only recently because of this.
And I think other countries were enabled from the start.
But again, I maybe mistaken.
Offline
Some other countries were late, too - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_W … ustralia_2
But I just thought vendors might have been reluctant to enable 6GHz at all - though not by september 2023…
Kernel driver build is from 2022/12/22
It's ok to hang in here regardless, but this isn't archlinux?
What kernel version is this?
