I followed this https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/HiDPI#Wayland to enable fractional scaling, i.e. 125%, 150%, 175%.. instead of just 100%, 200%, 300%.
125% seems to scale applications well with my laptop screen 2560x1600 (16:10).
One issue is, the cursor doesn't scale when hovering over certain applications. For example
1. set gigantic cursor size via gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface cursor-size 200 command.
2. the cursor size is unchanged and small when hovering it over things like:
- desktop wallpaper
- web browser
- gnome tweaks tool
3. gigantic cursor only appears when hovering mouse over
- files/nautilus gnome app
- gnome settings
- gnome-calculator
- gnome text editor
docs mentions it is experimental so maybe is this a known bug?

Decided to set mouse cursor to default size - 24. It is small but you can still see it and size doesn't change depending on which window your cursor is at. Fractional scaling looks better so it's a worth compromise ![]()
