Hi all, 8)
finally got some time on my hands and installed Arch! Heh!
Everything was fine except for the part after installing Blackbox.
So, Black install went fine, sure enough, it installed X, too.
I've changed .xinitrc to execute blackbox. Re-logged in.
startx - and error message comes out about configuration file not being found!
Now, what should I do to use Blackbox (or KDE that I've downloaded today)? Where should this configuration file reside and what to contain? Earlier, I was relying on SuSE/Mandrake/RH to do this for me, but ...
Cheers,

.xinitrc should reside in your home directory (~/). you can make a file, all it requires is a single line for what DE you want to run. I think for blackbox its a simple
# .xinitrc
blackbox
in fact, I believe all the boxes are just the name...

Sounds like you need a /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file. Try running xf86config. You'll probably need to tweak the resulting file though.

:DA-ha! Two good replies already!
Thanks -I'll give it a go, though my problem might be in regards to missing XFree config file...

fyi: sorted!
I needed to run XF86Config to make the X config file and store it in its proper location. Some manual tweeaking of the config file is needed tough, depending on the hardware.
Do not be "fooled" by the "frozen" mouse after your X session starts (at least with blackbox and xfce it does). Just wait few more seconds and it will become alive.
Next step: PPP (ouch)!
Cheers to all, 8)

I had had a frozen touchpad which would only move mouse after first rubbing the touchpad for a few seconds, and then worked fine. The XFree 4.4.0 upgraded resolved this issue though, jippie! :-)
