Re: [SOLVED] kernel 6.6.x and wayland issues

Do you have a journal from the previously "fine" boots?

Re: [SOLVED] kernel 6.6.x and wayland issues

Thats on the 6.6.4 kernel w/ the nvidia module?

I installed nvidia but it was working fine without it previously. And I don't know what caused it to act up in the first place.
I am assuming something with the new kernel but I don't know for sure.

There's btw a parallel windows and the time jumps back 5h

Off the subject but I dual boot with windows.
I have this setting set:

timedatectl set-local-rtc 1

The wiki wrote:

Recommended: Set both Arch Linux and Windows to use UTC

Not recommended: Set Arch Linux to localtime and disable all time synchronization daemons.

The time jumps 5h backwards during the boot, so sth. is *clearly* off.

I have a Wayland install which has been documented here previously.
Just started using it again and updated the system.
I noticed that using the latest kernel is causing all sorts of issues.
This system has sway configured and plasma .

Buddy, I totally confirm this.

Right now I do not have much possibilities to post details or logs. And so lost a couple days to sort it all out.

So, on my notebook with AMD Ryzen 5 5600U and Radeon Graphics I was used Alpine Linux with Sway, maybe, more than 2 years already without any seriously issues. Until ~ 07.12.23. After upgrading from some Linux kernel 6.4 to 6.6 - runing Sway just led to a dark screen and thoroughly suspended system. Weston started up, but after closing it,  system suspended also with black screen. Immediately just was suspicious of the updated kernel. Because of other real life tasks, I decided not even try to look for what the developers changed. Downgraded only the kernel version to the previous one and all problems went away.

On this notebook same time I using Arch Linux, ~2 years also, same with Sway compositor. 11.12.23 after upgrading in Arch onto new Linux kernel 6.6 I got absolutely same issues with same symptoms - as in Alpine before - starting Sway hangs system, quitting Weston hangs system. In Arch just have moved on Linux x 6.1.67-1-lts - predictably, all issues disappeared immediately.

I just hope, same as you, that my info will help other users deal with this problem.

Re: [SOLVED] kernel 6.6.x and wayland issues

The OP has neither ryzen nor amdgpu, but there're several threads concerning various amdgpu issues and there's always https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Ryzen#Troubleshooting
Ideally open a new thread and post a system journal from a bogus kernel.

Re: [SOLVED] kernel 6.6.x and wayland issues

seth, hi! Thank you for your answer.

seth wrote:

I specified the processor and graphics for users who may have encountered same issues. And for accumulate statistics by the issues, also.

I know this section. Thanks anyway, as anyone can forget about it in time.

In this case issues are probably less hardware related. Since it was upgrade to a new version of kernel that caused similar problems on different hardware in different systems in a particular part - graphical environments based on Wayland. And before the upgrade there were no such problems in these systems.

If I get opportunity, I will try. Or if appear someone else who has encountered these problems - they will open a thread.

Re: [SOLVED] kernel 6.6.x and wayland issues

Today 23.12.23 - firstly in Alpine upgraded to linux-edge-6.6.8-r0. linux-lts-6.6.8-r0 same. Sway started without any problems - all nice.

Later today at Arch updated kernel to 6.6.8-arch1-1. Sway started up perfectly. I did not encounter any bugs - everything works very stable.

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 5#p2138825 but as pointed out before, the OP doesn't have an amdgpu chip
