Regarding this topic, it is unclear what you refer to as "the login interface". Are you logging into a TTY and running a command to start Plasma? Have you installed and configured a login manager, if so which one? Help us to help you, don't assume we know what you have done and how your system is configured.

Most likely pam will tell in the system journal.
