[Solved] Sway doesn't properly work (nvidia)

Hi,

I can't get Sway to work with nvidia-dkms driver (currently 545.29.06-1). According to the wiki, I have:
* Installed sway, swaylock, swayidle and swaybg packages
* Set nvidia DRM options according to https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA … de_setting
* Installed wlroots-nvidia
* Installed polkit, but after having issues, I also added my user to the seat usergroup and enabled seatd.service
* Installed wmenu, dmenu and foot

I then tried launching both manually from terminal, and with SDDM (had to edit /usr/share/wayland-sessions/sway.desktop to add --unsupported-gpu flag), and it boot up, with both internal and external monitors recognized, but all keyboard activity was ignored, and I didn't see the mouse cursor (but display numbers were being lit up accordingly, while moving computer mouse from the left to the right displays).

I then switched to the systemd via SDDM launching method, now the sway logs are available via journalctl: https://github.com/swaywm/sway/wiki/Systemd-integration. For some reason this line in /etc/systemd/user/sway.service:

ExecStartPre=systemctl --user unset-environment WAYLAND_DISPLAY DISPLAY # This line make you able to logout to dm and login into sway again

was causing this startup error:

Switching to Nouveau isn't an option, since I use CUDA, and also my external display doesn't get recognized by Nouveau.

I tried googling for the error messages, but found nothing relevant.

If it matters, I'm coming from KDE Plasma, since Plasma Wayland session works very unreliably for me, and I wanted to see if I could get my eGPU to work in Internal+External-eGPU monitors mode with Wayland (couldn't get it to work with X11).

Have you confirmed that nvidia is actually relevant to the symptoms?  It really shouldn't be.  You describe a successful startup and graphics rendering, just lacking any keyboard input, right?  The GPU driver really shouldn't be able to have any effect at all on keyboard handling.  (note, I glossed over the SDDM-specific information and am only addressing the attempt to start sway directly as I really don't even expect DMs to work).

I'm always experiencing the same symptoms, either starting Sway with SDDM, or directly from tty1 after having the DM disabled. With nvidia driver I get both display (internal + HDMI) looking like this:

*notice that monitor number in the top left corner gets a more intense blue color on the display when I move the invisible mouse cursor there: that's the only indication I get that input devices (kind of) get processed, apart from the power button that powers off the laptop nicely.

I tried removing nvidi-dkms drivers and enabling Nouveau back, and I get this strange looking desktop:

* and again no key strokes or cursor, power button shuts the laptop down.

You didn't reboot after disabling seatd, did you?

So the issue is the invisible cursor?

Thank you seth! I missed that part of the wiki, since I was first looking for solution with keyboard shortcuts not working. I disabled seatd, rebooted a couple of times, but, e.g., mod(win)+enter was being ignored, along with the other sway shortcuts. I booted plasma today, installed wofi, booted sway again, and keyboards shortcuts started working! Then I added WLR_NO_HARDWARE_CURSORS=1 env variable, and cursor appeared. I had some flickering problems, both with the wlroots, and wlroots-nvidia installed, got it fixed with installing sway-git (and respective wlroots-git).
