[solved] virt-manager "Open" shell prompt input entries not displayed

Hello everyone,

since the last update to version 4.1.0 of the virt-manager, after creating a virtual machine and starting it in the shell, the entries in the shell are sometimes not displayed or only partially displayed.
Also, the prompt no longer flashes and is either permanently visible or is not displayed.

I have observed this on two different systems with completely different hardware.

Has anyone observed the same phenomenon?

Regards
Klaus.

p.s. Maybe the problem occurs since upgrade lot's of qemu-* packages the last days?

Noticed much the same over the last few days, never looked into it yet.

Re: [solved] virt-manager "Open" shell prompt input entries not displayed

The work around for now until they update the package needed is to change the video from Virtio to VGA.

Hi sammiev,

thank you for the work around.

Can you tell me, which package is the relevant one to update? qemu-...

Thank you!
Klaus.

Hi sammiev,

on the qemu or virt-manager site?

This was mine too:

Greetings
Klaus.

Re: [solved] virt-manager "Open" shell prompt input entries not displayed

I found it in qemu and they showed patch available in the bug tracker, it's not there now.

EDIT: That was where I read about using VGA in the Display.

Re: [solved] virt-manager "Open" shell prompt input entries not displayed

I'd a similar issue running a Windows 10 virtual machine on libvirt + kvm + qemu and virtio video configuration. It started after updating Arch earlier today (a day before it was OK).

At the login dialog one can see just the first dot of the PIN being input as if the system froze but it didn't. After login, the mouse pointer is hidden and the windows overlays got stuck one over the other.
Changed the video to QXL but the resolution is too low even setting the "new" resolution sub-element. Then I tried the VGA setting as suggested by @sammiev and it worked very well.

Here is the XML part of new configuration.

<video>
  <model type="vga" vram="16384" heads="1" primary="yes">
    <resolution x="1920" y="1080"/>
  </model>
  <address type="pci" domain="0x0000" bus="0x00" slot="0x01" function="0x0"/>
</video>

Regards,
Alexandre

Re: [solved] virt-manager "Open" shell prompt input entries not displayed

Hi,

after upgrade of the qemu-* packages (8.2.0-1 -> 8.2.0-2) the Video virtio driver works as expected.

Thank you sammiev for the tip to change temporary to VGA.

Greetings
Klaus.
