Wanting to use protonvpn but using systemd-networkd.

As in the subject, I am a new subscriber to protonvpn. I believe that to use the gui for protonvpn I need to use network manager? How do I swap from systemd-networkd to network manager? I tried installing protonvpn from AUR, disabling systemd-networkd and installing network manager but I ended up with no internet connection. Could someone offer any advice as to what would be the best way to proceed?

You must also use NetworkManager and install network-manager-applet, otherwise the VPN will not connect.

NetworkManager needs to be configured, see https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NetworkManager

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.
