UPDATE:
kcmshell5
doesn't appear to be running. That could perhaps be the issue?

Ah, got it. So, what now? This is a real mystery, might just consider installing nothing but Arch, KDE and fcitx5 on a VM to what what happens.

I did a fresh install in arch three weeks ago with i3 and used japanese input, this is how I have it:
Installed packages:
fcitx5,fcitx5-configtool,fcitx5-gtk,fcitx5-mozc,fcitx5-qt
I added this to my .xinitrc file:
export QT_IM_MODULE=fcitx
export XMODIFIERS=@im=fcitx
export GTK_IM_MODULE=fcitx
export GLFW_IM_MODULE=ibus
export SDL_IM_MODULE=fcitx
This to my .xprofile file:
export XMODIFIERS=@im=fcitx
export QT_IM_MODULE=fcitx
export GTK_IM_MODULE=fcitx
fcitx5 &
After that all that's left it's initializing fcitx5 in your desktop/window manager,
since I use i3 I added this to my ~/.config/i3/config file:
exec --no-startup-id fcitx5
exec --no-startup-id fcitx5 -d
exec --no-startup-id fcitx5 -autostart
Also in the fcitx5 config tool I added mozc to the list since mozc is for japanese input.
I hope this is useful.

Why're you running fcitx5 3 times?
@adr77, I missed your post on the previous page (btw: "don't bump" - edit your posts if nobody has yet replied)
Also, everything seems to be set to "off", and I have no idea how to make that on, the global options do refer to the Hangul Hanja key, which I don't have, I have a standard 104-key keyboard with the QWERTY layout with the addition of Hebrew and Russian keys on top of the QWERTY layout.
Please link a screenshot.
And wrt kitsugo mentioning it: You did see the note on the wiki
Note: fcitx5 has only a basic framework, it just gives English support. If you want to input other languages, such as Chinese or Japanese, you need an Input Method Engine (IME).
and followed it and actually installed an input method???

Well, I did install the KKC IME for Japanese from the list on the "Input method" wiki page alongside fcitx5. Do I need more IME's for Hebrew and Russian?
Where can I send you a screenshot? Sorry for bumping.
UPDATE: everything just started... working? pressing super/meta+space now changes the input method group, so now I have all 4 languages, now the primary issue is that I can't control the Japanese IME options, Romaji works, just that I'd like a system similar to what seth showed or the MS IME system where I can tap the spacebar to see more options or change the current writing system from Romaji in Hiragana to Romaji in Katakana. maybe I should swap from KKC to Mozc like how kitsugo did?

Probably yes, this is how it looks in mozc: https://pasteboard.co/hss1HOHI8leS.png
Mozc detects if the word is hiragana, katakana or kanji almost 100% precise.
for example パソコン appears first as ぱそこん but I can use the menu and select the option displayed on katakana.
the same with kanji like 平仮名

This is perfect for me, thank you!
So now I just uninstall KKC and install the Mozc module for fcitx5?
UPDATE: after all this time (which isn't a lot), I now have Japanese Romaji input in a way I like. ありがとうございます!
