I'm having this issue where I think the simulator is to blame but sharing my configs just in case someone has a similar setup:
I have an iGPU (intel graphics) and a dGPU (Quadro M1000M), using PRIME Render offload supported by nvidia drivers.
I can run X-Plane 11 (Steam) in its OpenGL mode using the following startup options:
prime-run %command%
When I enable Vulkan (which gives a big boost in FPS and I have used before using bumblebee/primus_vk), the sim segfaults at startup.
Here's what I got from dmesg:

Interestingly enough, if I install vulkan-intel and run without offloading, Vulkan mode works (low FPS obviously since it uses Intel graphics), so I suspect there's an issue or incompatibility with the latest nvidia drivers.

Post your xorg log/ make sure that the xorg server is listed in
nvidia-smi
generally if you have any custom xorg.config post it here, but likely (re)move it (out of the way)

they're not going to work because I removed primus_vk (and bumblebee). I'm now using whichever vulkan drivers come with nvidia-utils.
In fact, if I run:

No luck with gamescope in my case, but maybe I'm missing a config:

That's straight out of libnvidia-glcore.so so you could try a 535xx driver (the 545xx version has various issues reported - this one looks new, but hey…)

same exact situation with nvidia/535.113.01, I may try older ones but dkms is failing with the latest kernel.

I even tried the AUR nvidia-470xx-dkms drivers, and again the same crash. I give up at least I learned more stuff about archlinux and nvidia in the process

Ok, I've found a solution that works for me:
note: maybe this is more of a workaround because X-Plane11 Vulkan mode simply doesn't work in Nvidia Optimus with PRIME offload. Another game that crashes very often with PRIME offload is rFactor 2 with Proton Experimental and it seems to be related to the Intel modesetting driver. (Kerbal Space Program has worked flawlessly with prime-run as far as I tested but who knows, maybe some update also breaks it).
The only way I can actually use my dGPU is through optimus-manager. I simply deactivate the iGPU, and use the dGPU for when I want to play steam games:
optimus-manager --switch nvidia
No need to offload with prime-run and Vulkan works fine.

I have used xf86-video-intel before because I needed intel-virtual-output to connect a second monitor when my offloading setup was handled by bumblebee/primus_vk (it's likely the reason rFactor 2 didn't crash as often as it is doing now with PRIME offloading, these are the crashes I'm seeing now: https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/x … aft/248555 and https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … ug/2016045).
xf86-video-intel also conflicted with mesa drivers and that's why I switched to PRIME.
Anyways, I prefer the supported PRIME offloading method to bumblebee. They both have pros and cons: I could run all my games in bumblebee with some tweaking of xorg.conf, some minor performance issues, and the fact that I had to start a second Xorg server for plugging in a monitor. On the other hand most things work out of the box with PRIME. For the 2 games that don't, I disable the iGPU and just use the dGPU with optimus-manager which is fine for me. Saw a bunch of posts saying that this is the only way they can reliably use the dGPU, offloading works with just a bunch of games (KSP for example).

Not entirely, you've used the wrong DRI driver, resulting in software rendering which got exposed when there was a fatal bug related to the swrast driver.
See the link I posted - it's not the generally advised approach but it you suspect this is somehow related to the modesetting driver, it might be worth a shot…

Ah I see, I mixed up configs with xf86-video-intel

which is a modesetting driver config. I'll see if the right setting fixes PRIME offloading for xp11 and rfactor

Thanks for the follow up seth. Turns out that with my laptop's i7-6700HQ the xf86-video-intel drivers seem to work better than modesetting (not getting the async flip freeze). I'm using this xorg config:

with this config prime-run doesn't crash on rFactor 2 with the asyc flip issue I get with the modesetting driver. That said, X-Plane 11 still doesn't work with Vulkan with this intel driver and offloading, still need to switch to dedicated as main GPU. I'll run some benchmarks because I felt offloading rFactor had better FPS than when I deactivate the iGPU (maybe because the GPU isn't running any other process?)
edit: the modesetting driver with the following option doesn't get the async flip issue, so I can drop xf86-video-intel:
