[SOLVED] Internal microphone in laptop is not working

Hello, I installed Arch on my laptop and even though I managed to get my sound output to work, the input is not working. GNOME's sound settings says: Input device: No input devices and pavucontrol says: Port: Microphone (unplugged). I use pipewire btw.
I tried:

 pactl set-source-port alsa_input.pci-0000_00_1f.3.analog-stereo analog-input-mic

And also restarting the pipewire and pipewire-pulse service.

Here are some outputs:
pactl list sources (I included only the mic):

I found out that I had wrong configuration in pavucontrol and now it both shows me "Built-in Audio Pro" as a microphone, but the mic is still not working tho.
This is the mic in pactl list sources:

EDIT: I found another issue - if I use the pavucontrol profile Pro Audio - the one, where the microphone is recognized, only one output works - if I have headphones, the speakers are muted in the alsamixer, so when I unplug headphones, the speakers do not work. If I unmute the speakers, then only speakers work and even if I plug the headphones, that are not muted, only speakers work until I manually mute them again. The speakers/headphone change work automatically when I used profile Analog Stereo Duplex, but this is the one where the microphone is not recognized.

Re: [SOLVED] Internal microphone in laptop is not working

Progress: I found out that while being on Analog Stereo Duplex and GNOME settings showing No input devices my microphone actually captures the output of my laptop (and no, it is not from the speakers/headphones since I lowered the volume to 0) instead of my voice. I verified it by using arecord and also on discord/LOL voice chat. So my current issue is how to change it so the input actually works as an input.

Re: [SOLVED] Internal microphone in laptop is not working

Post

pactl list cards
pactl list sources
pactl list source-outputs

during a recording attempt. Does

arecord -Dhw:0 test.wav

work?

"sound from my laptop" could just be the monitor source rather than an actual microphone recording (whether you put general volume to zero is irrelevant, the monitor source would be independent of that)

I started recording using

 arecord -vvv -f cd test.wav

Here are the pactl commands during that:

Re: [SOLVED] Internal microphone in laptop is not working

I changed:

 arecord -Dhw:0 test.wav

To:

 arecord -Dhw:0 -f S32_LE -c 2 test.wav

and it returns:

Warning: rate is not accurate (requested = 8000Hz, got = 44100Hz)
         please, try the plug plugin
Recording WAVE 'test.wav' : Signed 32 bit Little Endian, Rate 44100 Hz, Stereo

But it does not record anything, it only creates the .wav file.

  arecord -vvv -f cd test.wav

at least records the output.

Re: [SOLVED] Internal microphone in laptop is not working

Which? The one from your sound card? That arecord will go via pipewire and is on the monitoring sink as suspected. With that actively running, what happens if you move the sink to your actual mic source? E.g. in this example

pactl move-source-output 2209 1674

the numbers here are dynamic double check the numbers with list-source-outputs and list-sources respectively.

That said if none of these arecord invocations work then your mic doesn't work on a kernel/driver level. Something I'm just noticing: " even though I managed to get my sound output to work" -- what exactly does that mean? If you made a modprobe file with dmic_detect=0 guess what the dmic_detect you're disabling stands for -- same deal, but less immediately obvious for snd-intel-dspcfg dsp_driver

should that be the case, revert that, and install sof-firmware instead and reboot.

Also maybe in any case so we know what's actually going on

sudo journalctl -b

You were right, I indeed had

 options snd-hda-intel dmic_detect=0
options snd-hda-intel model=auto

in my modprobe and installing sof-firmware fixed the issue. Thank you very much for help!
