QEMU/KVM (virt-manager) Single GPU Passthrough - No Audio

Hi everyone,

I usually just pass through the audio from my motherboard as I use the aux for my speakers and it worked. I just recently updated my packages using "sudo pacman -Syu" and now my virtual machine just hangs on the black screen, when I go and checked the logs the error that it gave me is "qemu-system-x86_64: vfio: Cannot reset device 0000:0c:00.4, depends on group 21 which is not owned".

I tried pushing the audio through pipewire using the guide on archlinux and I still get no audio. I'm not sure what to do now and please let me know what other information I should provide, apologies in advance as I'm new to this and not sure what information is needed. I will update this post as needed!

Hi, you can use timeshift to revert to a working state of your system or you can try virtualbox, it seems to have fewer bugs than QEMU does.

OP is using virt-manager as frontend for qemu. In my experience most of the issues in that combo originate in virt-manager.

Lucky94, did you reboot the host / guest after the update ?

virt-manager stores settings for VMs in .xml-files. Please post the .xml-file for the guest VM.

Yes I rebooted both multiple times from trying different things haha.

Before I would just have my audio pci added:

I forgot to mention that I am doing a single gpu passthrough with qemu as well, I will add that my main post!

Group 21 contains Starship/Matisse Reserved SPP and I can't find what kind of device that is.

please post the output of lspci -tv . That should help to see how devices are interconnected.

So the devices in iommu groups 21 to 24 many not be entirely independent wrt passthrough.

Adding the SPP to vfio may cause issues with the other 2 devices, ACS is another option .
Both are interfering on a low level, let's not be hasty.

Please start the VM from terminal using virsh start win10 (change name if needed)  and post the output .


Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
