After running
$ sudo pacman -Syu
I don't have any sound. I tried playing a video in Firefox, then a mp3 file with mplayer, but nothing.
All channels in Alsamixer are set to 100 and unmuted.
$ sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/*
returns nothing.

I had looked at all the sliders in Alsamixer up to Mic Boost, but did not pay particular attention to the next entries. Auto mute, dynamic and independent were all disabled. Once I played around with them, sound was back.

Seems I rejoiced too early. It might be an intermittent issue. I did some reboots since the audio issues came back, but right now when I run
$ speaker-test -c 2
there's no sound no matter which settings I choose in Alsamixer. Same for mplayer and Firefox.
Does anyone have a tip which direction to look next?
