Re: Trackpoint stops working a few seconds after login

Good news... for now. Hopefully, it doesn't break right after I post. So, I just tried psmouse.proto=exps. l think psmouse.proto=imps and psmouse.proto=exps do the same thing. It feels like psmouse.proto=exps was more reliable with the buttons and scrolling more smoothly. The palm rejection is lacking, but I can probably turn off the touchpad, and that'll solve that problem. I also browsed some Linux Mint and Ubuntu forums and found that adding psmouse.proto=imps seems to be universal in everyone's setup guide/config for a T450 (one model newer than my T440p), which makes sense because (I forgot to mention it earlier) I have a T450 touchpad on my T440p (I didn't think it would matter since the trackpoint, the problem area, was still original.

Re: Trackpoint stops working a few seconds after login

Do you do anything special between the works/works not conditions (notably to restore function)?
Was/is the behavior w/ "psmouse.proto=bare" absolutely reliable?
If not, boot some live distro like grml and see whether the trackpoint is reliable there.

Re: Trackpoint stops working a few seconds after login

The behavior with psmouse.proto=bare was reliable. I tried booting Linux Mint, and it also had the problem.

Re: Trackpoint stops working a few seconds after login

How does it behave for

psmouse.elantech_smbus=1 psmouse.synaptics_intertouch=1 psmouse.proto=imps

or

psmouse.elantech_smbus=1 psmouse.synaptics_intertouch=1 psmouse.proto=bare

Edit: As long as the bare protocol works at least the HW isn't dropping out.

Re: Trackpoint stops working a few seconds after login

I decided to test it over a few days to really see how the behavior of each command was. So far, I've only tested this first set of options. I'll get back in another few days for the next: psmouse.elantech_smbus=1 psmouse.synaptics_intertouch=1 psmouse.proto=imps.
These command line options disable my touchpad gestures. The trackpoint works sporadically, very unreliably. It randomly freezes between uses, but I can usually get it to work for a few seconds by not touching my laptop and only carefully touching the trackpoint. Sometimes, that doesn't work either. The middle click scroll using the trackpoint is pretty much disabled too. It only works for the first few seconds of boot, then I have to rely on scrolling by dragging the scroll bar on a website, which is awful because my trackpoint is disabled half the time when I try that, again, very unreliable.

Re: Trackpoint stops working a few seconds after login

Well, the second set of options, psmouse.elantech_smbus=1 psmouse.synaptics_intertouch=1 psmouse.proto=bare, is even worse. I have no gestures or scrolling, and the trackpoint is dropping out. I might consider replacing the hardware at this point, but it's interesting that psmous.proto=bare on its own does not cause the trackpoint to drop out.
