Hal isn't adding new usb storage devices. [solved]

Hi
Hal isn't adding new usb storage devices when they are plugged in. CDs do work though.
Udev is adding them, so /dev/sda is created and I can pmount them.
I would like to use ivman though.

Test:
Run udevmonitor and lshal -m.
When a cd is put in, udevmonitor shows some modules are loaded (and if ivman is running it mounts the cd) and lshal -m shows the cd is added.
When a usb stick/camera/memory card adapter is plugged in, udevmonitor creates /dev/sda* and other /dev/ stuff, but there is no activity in lshal -m.

I managed to get hal to add the usb devices. When hal is restarted and it probes the hardware, it adds them if they are plugged in.

What could be the problem here? I was thinking dbus, not really sure though.
This is a pretty new install, just a few days old.
Daemons configured to load in rc.conf are:

hal syslog-ng network netfs crond alsa cups samba

edit: I doubt anyone else will experience this problenm, but I manged to fix it by deleting the configuration files for udev, hal and dbus and reinstalling the packages.
