I've been using Okular as my main PDF reader. While it's quite good overall, it's not all roses. Here's a short list of what I find annoying:
- It takes a gigantic amount of memory with just a few tabs open. I mean, a lot: even more than Firefox with fewer tabs open, which is already crazy hungry. That's saying. And that's with the default "normal" memory usage. I don't even want to know what happens with the two more aggressive settings. I've seen over 8 GB taken with just a few documents open. Again, with the "normal" strategy. What seems to happen is the more you scroll through a document, and the more memory it will use. It just keeps growing as you scroll, and growing a lot.
- Searching is *very* slow in large documents (hundreds of pages). Something very noticeable compared to other viewers I've used.
- There's still no apparent way of keeping more than 10 entries for the last documents open and no setting for that.
I like its features overall, including the fact it renders markdown, integrated signature, and the fact it can watch for a file change when open and automatically reload it (very handy when generating PDF's). But the above points are annoying and are not looking like they are going to be addressed.
I'm not really looking for workarounds here, although if you have any, why not. But just curious about what you guys think about this.
