Will squid speed up my webrowsing?

Can squid be configured to pre-cache websites that it notices I visit everyday?  I have a stand-alone machine, and surf around alot - some of the websites are obscure and slow.  I was curious if "squid" would run int the backround and make "local" copies whenver the hosts changed.

Can it pre-fetch two-levels deep into a website? For example, if I normally read alll the headlined stories, they would be in the 2nd level.

thx!

I'm not familiar with squid, but I used "Lynx" in the past when I wanted to just read from the web, and could care less about pictures, banners, et cetera.  Lynx is a text only web browser.  I know it doesn't help you with your original question, but you may find that you like this browser as an alternative.  It's much much faster than any other.
