[SOLVED] System Upgrade Fails Due to Unsatisfied Dependencies

I've received the following error on 02/23/2024 and on 02/24/2024:

:: Synchronizing package databases...
 core                  129.9 KiB   149 KiB/s 00:01 [##########################] 100%
 extra                   8.3 MiB  5.25 MiB/s 00:02 [##########################] 100%
:: Starting full system upgrade...

error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: installing expat (2.6.0-1) breaks dependency 'expat=2.5.0' required by lib32-expat
:: installing libffi (3.4.6-1) breaks dependency 'libffi=3.4.4' required by lib32-libffi

I was able to perform a system upgrade after adding both packages to the Ignore line in /etc/pacman.conf. However, I'd like to know why the above error is happening.

Re: [SOLVED] System Upgrade Fails Due to Unsatisfied Dependencies

I can't do that. I'm using Wine, which requires a number of lib32 packages.

Re: [SOLVED] System Upgrade Fails Due to Unsatisfied Dependencies

The point is you have already partially done it -- you don't currently have the multilib repo enabled. If you didn't do this deliberately, then the most likely cause is mishandling of your .pacnew files (particularly /etc/pacman.conf.pacnew).

Just re-enable the repo and perform a full system upgrade if you want to continue using it.

Re: [SOLVED] System Upgrade Fails Due to Unsatisfied Dependencies

No mishandling...because of this. Thank you for your help. I should have checked the differences between my old pacman.conf file and the new merged info.
