Shared dot files with multiple DEs

i'm currently running i3 and quite happy, but considering trying out KDE/Plasma. I don't really have space to try and add another partition for a fresh install so wondering about the impact of simply installing any KDE package. I have two main areas of concern:

1. Most of my config is under $HOME/.config. If I install a second DE, can this cause any conflict with any .config files? For example, could running vscode under KDE cause changes to vscode config files that then upset how it currently works under i3?
2. I use ly as my display/login manager. Will this work OK with KDE and just appear as a new login option.

Thank you!

Re: Shared dot files with multiple DEs

1. Generally no, that won't have an inherent effect on each other, other than potential theming for Qt/GTK
2. Ly is known to have a broken session bus setup, so this will likely run you into a bunch of trouble. You'd be better off using something different like SDDM, or login via terminal and startx: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xinit#xinitrc
