Laptop hangs when waking from hybrid sleep (but hibernate image works)

Hi!

After some time, my hybrid sleep partially stopped working. Luckily, the hibernate image still works (so it's just an annoyance).

I have a laptop and want to do things hassle free OTG. Sometimes I open and close it, sometimes frequently, and/or need to leave in a hurry -> hybrid sleep just makes sense; I get best of both worlds! It used to work just fine.

But now, when waking up from suspend (to RAM), the computer just hangs. I can not do anything; sometimes screen is black, sometimes there is a mouse cursor but it can not be moved. Curiously brightness control (for keyboard) still works, as does SysRq (for reboot or power off).

Even more curiously, after rebooting the computer will load the sleep image (from an encrypted swap partition) just fine from my SSD. So I will not use any data in case I've forgotten to save my work, and can resume my work - it's just a nuisance since I need to take unnecessary "reboots" (in the eyes of the laptop only).

This laptop does not have Windows (a single-boot Arch) and all fast-boot options are disabled in the BIOS. The laptop is a Lenovo P14s Gen 2 (AMD).

In the Syslog it seems like suspend works just fine, I can not see anything out of ordinary (comparing to logs from the time I had no issues).

So, my theory is that the Kernel just hangs for whatever reason when coming out of sleep, but (in this case) luckily hangs before the Kernel actually does "anything" (hence: the image in the SWAP is still good).

Currently using the regular Kernel (I could try LTS?).

Any other ideas?

Cheers!

Re: Laptop hangs when waking from hybrid sleep (but hibernate image works)

Hi,

Please pass the log after you restart (assuming last boot):

 journalctl -b -1

Re: Laptop hangs when waking from hybrid sleep (but hibernate image works)

Frt (and to subscribe)

all fast-boot options are disabled in the BIOS

is irrelevant itr.
The hybrid sleep has most likely written a hibernation image and that's used on the reboot because the wakeup failed, so that's not all that surprising.

Straight up just going to S3 or S2idle exhibits the same symptoms?
