After exiting sleep wireless is disabled until next reboot

When I type sudo systemctl status networkmanager, I get:
GDBus.Error:fi.w1.wpa_supplicant1.UnknownError: wpa_supplicant couldn't grab this interface

(I'm using KDE if that matters)

I have tried restarting, enabling/disabling networkmanager
I've tried sudo ip link set wlp5s0 down
before doing:
I've tried sudo ip link set wlp5s0 up

But when I try to set it up I get:
RTNETLINK answers: operations not permitted

After checking my wifi driver name (iwlwifi) I tried:
modprobe: FATAL: Module iwlwifi is in use

Is there some way I can change sleep settings or boot configurations to fix this? Something similar happens when I used Linux mint as well or has my hardware just screwed me.
