Black Screen after login Shows up for a second

I just did a system upgrade and after rebooting I can't get past the login screen, because it shows up for a second or two and then I get a black screen. I still see the mouse cursor though and can move it. I can also switch to other tty and login there. But on the tty with gui the screen is still black with just showing the mouse.
I am using kde

When powering off my second monitor, the display doesn't go to black screen but it freezes. Though I can still move the cursor but not click anything or type anything.

Re: Black Screen after login Shows up for a second

ok I havent found the real issue here, but I could fix it by downgrading packages related to xorg.

I had a similar problem, but could login after downgrading mesa and mesa-vdpau.
However, VLC, Brave and Opera are crashing.
Can I ask which other, if any, you downgraded?

What is crashing where and how? https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Core_d … _core_dump and in case post a complete "journalctl -b"

If you happen to have a card using the older radeon driver there's an actual bug in mesa, try switching to amdgpu if your card is eligible or follow https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=292952

Re: Black Screen after login Shows up for a second

Thanks. I switched to AMDGPU, which seems to work well. All is fine now.

Re: Black Screen after login Shows up for a second

sorry for the late reply I wasn't able to use the computer for a while. Good thing you got it working! I also tried the AMDGPU but it didnt work for me so for the future here is the list of packages I downgraded to

xorg-xprop-1.2.6-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst xorg-xkbcomp-1.4.6-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst xorg-server-common-21.1.10-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst xorg-server-21.1.10-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst xorg-server-devel-21.1.10-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst xorg-server-xephyr-21.1.10-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst xorg-server-xnest-21.1.10-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst xorg-server-xvfb-21.1.10-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst xorg-xkbutils-1.0.5-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst xorg-xmessage-1.0.6-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst

and the mesa packages were

mesa-1:23.3.2-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst lib32-mesa-1:23.3.2-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst

However I havent updated my system since then so I hope with the next time I do an update it wont crash again.
