I would like Arch kernel maintainers to add an amdgpu patch to the default kernel that revert changes made since v6.7, where power min_cap(minimum wattage that can be set) was set to the gpu's firmware default without giving an option to override. What this did was that for example my RX6700XT, which was able to run with minimal loss of performance at 115W(!!), have now minimum 190W. Many others with different cards then reported same disappointment. It was submitted to the official kernel but maintainers threw it from the table under rather stupid excuses(like "stability" etc., even though min_cap really only matter if you manually change power limit - aka underclock/underpowering and have not been proven to incur any stability issues even then. Also things worked fine for years until 6.7 kernel).
Here is an example of how much power you can save vs perf. loss:

Here is unsuccessful discussion at the kernel:
https://lore.kernel.org/all/ae64f04d-6e … sk.eu.org/
And finally, a "closed" issue on gitlab(but with 2 user patches published):
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/issues/3183
Also note that Nobara adopted it already. You can read the comments everywhere, incl. linked issues where people complain and demand reversal.
So with all that, I want to appeal to the Arch kernel maintainers to include one of 2 patches into default linux binary by default.

Wrong tree.

nb. that arch typically does not apply patches that haven't been already upstreamed, regardless of what randomdistrox™ did. So don't be pissed if the answer is "no" or "have you already told upstream" or something like that.

You can always build your own kernel: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Kernel … ild_system

I know I can build my own kernel, I thought this would be considered when taking into account huge differences in power savings. Its not a small thing and many others reported similar experience. There is at least one patch that is applied to default kernel anyway, I saw it when I was compiling via ABS.
Also, I considered what Arch was always about: speed and effectiveness. This patch is native to its values, regardless of upstream-only policy.
