KDE dependencies - what to download
Hi all,
I'd like to install KDE via CD.
At home I'm on dial-up, so can't do it via ftp. So, I download all packages at job (fast) and burn.
My question is what other packages, apart from obvius KDE ones, do I have to get? Or, what's the best way on getting this info for any other package? Is it all in current/extra.db.tar.gz?
(I did set pacman.conf to do this...)

Not sure you have what you need on the 0.6 widget CD, might be on the EXtra CD, as all the main KDE packages are in "Extra" repos. Is that the CD you have? If not, you will need to pacman -Sy them.

yup, I do have 0.6 only, and kde is not on it. But I would like to download, burn and install *kde related packages only* from the extra or current reps. Otherwise I'd end up d/loading approx. 1.3 Gigs from extra alone...
As I said, I'm on dial-up, so simply pacman -Sy kde is not an option for me. Rather, I have to d/load all I *need* while on job (fast connection), burn and then use at home.

not sure about the details of using pacman and cds, although I did some of mine that way, so you will needs these 3 for sure:
*kdebase - main part of the same desktop environment
*kdeutils - includes kfloppy and more
*kdeadmin - includes kuser and more
Then you might want kdegames, kde artwork, and other smaller pkg as you need them.

Try this on your machine at home:
pacman -Sp kde
That should give you a list of all the packages you need. You'll also need the db.tar.gz if you want to use pacman -S to install it.

Hi mladen.
You can also take a look at the full set of possible KDE packages available for download by performing the following incantation:
pacman -Ss KDE | less
as root or using sudo. This produces a large list of KDE packages aside from the core packages you'll get through Xentac's quite proper starting point for your KDE install.
