Screen went pitch black

Was browsing generally, screen went black with a cursor blinking on top left.
It was not a command line.

Had to restart my system? What could be the potential reason

That's not "pithc black"…
You either switched the VT (tried ctrl+alt+F2?) or the GUI target crashed and could not be restarted.
If you're lucky, there're remnants of the incident in the previous system journal, "sudo journalctl -b -1", but it'll most likely end prematurely in case of the hard reboot.
Avoid the latter, try to switch the VT, frenetic usage of ctrl+alt+del or the https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Keyboa … el_(SysRq) before resorting to the power button.
