Okular/KDE6/X11 copying image w/ area selection tool very poor quality

After updating to KDE 6, the quality of images produced using the area selection tool has deteriorated very badly in X11. Saving the clipped area to file produces no better result. This has been reported as a bug (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=483204 and https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=483381), but I'm wondering if there is a workaround. Is there another way to clip an area of a PDF to produce an image suitable for posting, for example? (I mostly use this functionality in posts on TeX StackExchange.)

Note that despite what the bug says about the force DPI setting, I don't have that checked in system settings, though I do have custom settings for display in `/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-monitor.conf`:

Section "OutputClass"
Identifier "cfr eDP-1"
Driver "modesetting"
Option "Monitor-eDP-1" "cfr DPI"
EndSection

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "cfr DPI"
DisplaySize 277 156
EndSection

Copy-paste from Konsole is also removing indentation ....
