[Solved] Artifacting on second screen after upgrading to Linux 6.8.

Hi, I'm having a problem after upgrading to Linux 6.8 (6.8 and 6.8.1 both have the same problem) I'm getting white line artifacting regularly flashing on my second screen. This goes away when I unplug my primary and keep my second screen plugged in, and is not an issue on older kernel versions. video

I run linux-zen as my primary kernel, however I've tried the regular linux kernel and have the same problem. Also, this occurs on both the Plasma desktop, and SDDM (display manager), and does not occur in tty sessions with no X/Wayland server running.

I was wondering if anyone else has a similar problem, or a potential resolution. If you need any specific logs, like from the journal, I can of course provide that too.

Thanks, the AMD dynamic power management was causing the issue.

I'm having this exact same problem. Last week when I did a "pacman -Syu", my system was working. Today, I updated and now i'm getting graphical glitches on the second monitor. It looks the same as op's video. The only difference is that none of the above linked fixes worked. My gpu is AMD ATI Radeon RX 7700 XT and cpu is i7-6850K.

I tried downgrading mesa and xorg-sever but none of that stuff made a difference. I then saw how op claimed the 6.8 kernel caused it so I downgraded to kernel 6.7.9. That seems to have solved the issue but it's not a permanent fix unless I just never update my software again.

Adding "amdgpu.runpm=0" to the https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Kernel_parameters doesn't work?
Do you use the amdgpu kernel module itfp and/or is this maybe a hybrid system?

Yes, that made no difference. If I reinstall my OS, do you think a fix will be in the new installation? If not, how much longer should I wait before reinstalling? This is just a desktop pc and that AMD card is the only one I have installed in it right now.

I have other issues that probably warrant a reinstall anyway. Most notably a keyboard bug where the keyboard stops working after login and I have to unplug my keyboard a few times after logging in. It's 100% software related and the issue doesn't happen when running different linux systems on the same pc. It's not worth trying to fix i've already beaten that horse dead I just wish I could fix this screen bug in a way that doesn't involve using an old kernel so I can put off on reinstalling my system for a few more weeks.

Have you tried `echo high > /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_dpm_force_performance_level`

That's what fixed it for me, it's not persistent of course though.

Interesting, that actually made it go away. I had to change "card0" to "card1" though.
