Cannot print to HP Printer in landscape

I have an HP Photosmart B110a configured via cups and hplip. Everything seems to work well - until I try and print in landscape.  It always prints in portrait mode - regardless of what settings I change.  I have tried printing using 3 different pieces of software - including the hp-toolbox that comes with hplip.

How can I get my printer to let me print in landscape?

Re: Cannot print to HP Printer in landscape

The problem could be with ghostscript. Does downgrading help?

Re: Cannot print to HP Printer in landscape

Excellent thought! This is all going through a CUPS server on my home network. I'm not sure at what point Ghostscript kicks in - should I downgrade on the server or the client?

Do I even need it on the client...?

Re: Cannot print to HP Printer in landscape

Cups uses ghostscript as a rasterizer engine (for some background see for example here).

Thus it would probably suffice to downgrade the ghostscript package. There have been several issues with ghostscript updates reported lately thus this is a mere educated guess. You may also try the gutenprint package if you don't have already.

Also search the forums for similar topics of late.

I don't know about hp-toolbox, but if the other apps happen to be LibreOffice, then it could be the "Printer Language type" setting in File => Printer Settings => Properties => Device. Having it set to PDF can cause what you described. I (and some others here) had to change that to PostScript to print documents in landscape orientation.

Re: Cannot print to HP Printer in landscape

Thanks - I'd already seen that thread, but I'm not using Libre...

The software I've used is the hp-toolbox, acroread and chromium - all with the same results.

I'm giving a downgraded version of ghostscript a go now - I'll report back...

Re: Cannot print to HP Printer in landscape

I've tried downgrading ghostscript as far as I can and I'm still getting the same result.  Any other ideas of what I can try?

Re: Cannot print to HP Printer in landscape

try entering to the CUPS web-based administration interface and changing the driver to some other..  maybe it's a driver issue... thy similar versions of your printer.. try using the gutenprint driver, or maybe the driver of the manufacturer (if it exists) for linux

Re: Cannot print to HP Printer in landscape

I am currently using the official HP driver for linux for this printer.  I took a look to see if there were any alternate or similar drivers, but there really aren't...

Re: Cannot print to HP Printer in landscape

Same happening to me here and changing to postscript as the type of language of the printer in the printer properties solved it.

Using: - hplip 3.11.10-1 and hp laserjet 1606n (and last versions of cups and cups-pdf).

In my case it is happening why printing in libreoffice or also a landscape pdf.

Re: Cannot print to HP Printer in landscape

I know that necrobumping this thread is not a good idea but that I have the same problem as qileilu.

Choosing a landscape orientation in KDE/Plasma 6 does not affect the printed output, it stills prints portrait. If I choose to print to a PDF, cups correctly creates a landscape PDF that Okular prints correctly.

If I use lpr to print a text file in landscape mode it print correctly.

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot?

Thanks.
