Random severe screen flickering

Hi,

Since about a week and a half I'm experiencing severe screen flickering at random times, to make it stop I either need to reboot or, and this is a strange one, turn my monitor off and back on again.
However, when turning the monitor off and back on again, and Dolphin happens to be open, this action crashes Dolphin for some reason, sometimes other windows also tend to close.
At first I figured the flickering had to be caused by some borked kernel update, so I've tested vanilla arch kernel, zen kernel and even the lts kernel but the issue keeps persisting.
When it happens there's nothing of interest in dmesg nor is there anything that looks useful to me in journalctl (except when Dolphin crashes as there's a crash report in the journal).

I've googled and tried various "fixes", kernel parameters etc but none have fixed the issue.
I'd also be surprised if it would be a hardware issue as my rather new GPU works fine during heavy load etc.
Meaning I'm currently all out of ideas and am hoping someone here would point me in the right direction to troubleshoot this in any meaningful way.
