diagnosing non-functional tablet volume keys

I have successfully installed arch on a Lenovo X1 fold 16 gen 1. It works quite well apart from a few quirks.

One trouble-some problem is diagnosing inputs from the volume keys that are built on the side of the tablet. They are non functional.

sudo libinput debug-events --show-keycodes

The above gives no output when the buttons are pressed. Any suggestions on diagnosing would be greatly appreciated

Re: diagnosing non-functional tablet volume keys

Still no success in diagnosing.

dmesg also provides no information; though maybe that's to be expected if the kernel has no register or map to the physical keys being pressed.
