gnome and circeling through apps on the taskbar

I wonder if I am using the correct words here, but multiple google searches did not bring me a result so I guess I try to describe what I am looking for:

When clicking with the left mouse button on a group of active windows, gnome starts circling through them. I have to hover over the group to be able to select the window I want, so this is just really annoying. What is the name for the setting I am looking for, so that a click on the grouped app leads to only opening the preview windows, but not the apps if there is more than one app, so I can click the correct window?

Re: gnome and circeling through apps on the taskbar

Maybe a screenshot or two, even a screencast?  Or even just a longer question with more sentences, first carefully and separately explaining your terminology and context, then moving on to your question.  I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "group of active windows", nor "starts circling through them".

When a single application has multiple open windows, you can cycle through them using Alt-` (hold down Alt key then press the "backtick" key as many times as necessary to select the window you want, then release the Alt key).  I understand you're talking about mouse not keyboard, but are these the "groups of active windows" you're talking about here (I suspect not, but I'm struggling to guess what else instead)?

Re: gnome and circeling through apps on the taskbar

thanks for your input. I tried to catch it here:
https://jumpshare.com/s/DQNk9Son3n5oBjcqJumK

So what I did in the video was clicking on firefox multiple times, so the open firefox windows started appearing one after each other ... but I actually wanted to see what is in the end of the video (which is exactly what happens when I hoover over the firefox logo in the taskbar for a short time): A thumbnail of all windows, so I can choose which one I want by click.
Is my explanation clear enough?

Are you sure you're using GNOME and not some other desktop environment?  It looks nothing like the GNOME I'm using

Re: gnome and circeling through apps on the taskbar

Gnome has no taskbar.

If there is an issue here, it is with whatever extension(s) you're using to provide a taskbar.
