When I run xcompmgr it starts with no errors, but it flashes for a split second showing my wallpaper, then it switches back to the black terminal. Please help me fix this issue, it has been bothering me for a while.
I use DWM as a window manager and start it with startx. And i have read the xcompmgr wiki.

Arch Linux newbie here
Thanks for reading my signature, but I'm afraid there is nothing interesting to see over here. So I don't know why are you still reading this. Okay I should admit that you are curious, so if you are still reading this far, congratulations!

In what situation? Does the flicker happen when xcompmgr starts or frequently?
Please post your Xorg log, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xorg#General

Thanks for reading my signature, but I'm afraid there is nothing interesting to see over here. So I don't know why are you still reading this. Okay I should admit that you are curious, so if you are still reading this far, congratulations!

It flickers when i start it.
That's borderline "normal" when the output gets redirected, though if your xinitrc still looks like
xwallpaper --zoom ~/Pictures/wallpapers/wallpaper.jpg
xcompmgr -c -C -t-5 -l-5 -r4.2 -o.55 &
exec dwm
where does the "black terminal" come from?
Autostarted by dwm?
Does picom show the same behavior?

yes, picom shows the same behavior. and by black terminal i mean like the terminal i had before
and i also removed the xcompmgr line from my xinitrc to run it directly

It flickers when i start it.
That's borderline "normal" when the output gets redirected, though if your xinitrc still looks like
xwallpaper --zoom ~/Pictures/wallpapers/wallpaper.jpg xcompmgr -c -C -t-5 -l-5 -r4.2 -o.55 & exec dwm
where does the "black terminal" come from?
Autostarted by dwm?Does picom show the same behavior?
UPDATE: Now after i used pywal my terminal completely disappears unless i interrupt xcompmgr
UPDATE 2: when I use it with transset-df it works, but only on a specific terminal. That means when i run another terminal it doesnt work on it.

Thanks for reading my signature, but I'm afraid there is nothing interesting to see over here. So I don't know why are you still reading this. Okay I should admit that you are curious, so if you are still reading this far, congratulations!

Neither xcompmgr nor picom will magically make windows transparent. Running either of these just *allows for* transparency/translucency. It's still up to the individual client programs to (be configured to) create windows with an opacity less than 1.0. I don't believe `st` has this option (and if it did, you'd have to add it to the config and recompile). So you'd have to use transset-df with each terminal. There are many ways to script / automate this, but none of this happens simply by starting xcompmgr.

I'm not *quite* sure what the problem is right now, but
urxvt -depth 32 -bg 'rgba:3f00/3f00/3f00/d000'
will get you a translucent terminal (with opaque text)
