Reproducable bug in Intel GPU Linux driver

I am 99.9% certain that there is a bug in the Intel GPU Linux driver, and I think more specific in the shader compiler.

See https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=294261 for how I came to that conclusion.

Can anyone tell me who, where, how, ... I can contact the maintainer to report this?

Re: Reproducable bug in Intel GPU Linux driver

You'd report shader/ogl bugs on https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/issues -- against the iris GPU driver.

But FWIW, what is your current output of

glxinfo -B #needs mesa-utils

and make sure you're not running xf86-video-intel if on anything remotely modern (... newer than ivybridge from 2011)

Thanks, I'll try that!

It is a quite recent gaming laptop, so certainly newer.
Sorry, still a noob when it comes to that, how can I make sure of that?

If I check this:

$ pacman -Q | grep xf86-video
xf86-video-vesa 2.6.0-1

I don't get xf86-video-intel. Is that sufficient?

Re: Reproducable bug in Intel GPU Linux driver

that is sufficient (you can also remove vesa FWIW if you're ever actually operating on that you have other problems as well )

Some additional tests you could run to check whether the GL/iris implementation is broken is test out zink, make sure vulkan-intel is installed and run your program with

MESA_LOADER_DRIVER_OVERRIDE=zink $yourprogram

or maybe even just the software renderer with

MESA_LOADER_DRIVER_OVERRIDE=llvmpipe

Edit: Fixed variable typo

That is great information!

But the result is the same.
Of course, if the same shader compiler is used between hardware rendering and software rendering, it's normal that it stays the same.
If I tried the shading with a SPIR-V shader, it also had the same result. I guess it's all the same compiler...

But... is it then still the good location to post the bug?

Re: Reproducable bug in Intel GPU Linux driver

It shouldn't be... I think I fucked up the variable (I started writing it from memory, held off on posting -- looked it up -- but forgot to adjust it in the post roll), try

MESA_LOADER_DRIVER_OVERRIDE=zink

MESA_LOADER_DRIVER_OVERRIDE=llvmpipe

instead

The first one wouldn't work (failed to load driver: zink), but this one worked, and it gives the correct result!

So, definitely a driver bug?

Re: Reproducable bug in Intel GPU Linux driver

Very likely, but getting zink working would still actually run on the HW but using vulkan to implement the OpenGL logistics and might be able to narrow it down a bit more (e.g. whether it might be a kernel driver flub or so). But in any case reporting an issue against iris isn't going to be inherently incorrect.

Re: Reproducable bug in Intel GPU Linux driver

I'd like to try this zink, any idea why it can't be found? I did install vulkan-intel.

$ sudo pacman -S vulkan-intel
... (it worked)
$ MESA_LOADER_DRIVER_OVERRIDE=zink ~/tmp/blah/Linux/Release/blah

That issue reads weird, can you post

vulkaninfo --summary #vulkan-tools

as well as your xorg log?

Re: Reproducable bug in Intel GPU Linux driver

Intel integrated + dedicated nvidia card (proprietary driver) . Those tend to work badly together wrt vulkan.

Try installing vulkan-mesa-layers (and lib32-vulkan-mesa-layers if you're using multilib apps like wine/steam/proton )

Post the output of

MESA_VK_DEVICE_SELECT=list vulkaninfo

for more info see https://docs.mesa3d.org/envvars.html#vu … -variables .

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky

Re: Reproducable bug in Intel GPU Linux driver

I  don't quite grok why it enumerates the nvidia card first by default. But to properly test zink you'd limit/reorder the vulkan selection so the intel card is first.

so

MESA_VK_DEVICE_SELECT=8086:9bc4! MESA_LOADER_DRIVER_OVERRIDE=zink $yourprogram

should get you the vulkan renderer on the intel card.

Re: Reproducable bug in Intel GPU Linux driver

Still get the same result:
