When kernel 6.8.1 released i couldn't boot the screen got stuck on "Triggering udev events during boot and then went black. Turns out i have issues with the GPU driver (here's dmesg output from when it first failed https://0x0.st/XrxJ.txt ). With the new archiso 2024.04.01 which uses kernel 6.8.2 gets stuck. Tried with the zen kernel and it doesn't work. The only kernels that work are those before 6.8. My GPU is Radeon RX 570 using the open source driver.

There's been a load of amdgpu fixes in 6.8.3/4 maybe wait for that and retest.

Thanks for the information. I'll see.

So i updated to kernel 6.8.4 and the issue still persists.

Is the issue still present in linux-mainline available prebuilt from miffe.

I have the exact same issue, though it seems that it has something to do with the AMD GPU PCI speeds. I found this information on https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/ … /116368/12 since it seems there is no fix for it at the moment outside of that patch they mention in that thread. It's prevalent from kernel 6.8, and it still has the same issue in kernel 6.9. There is no official fix, I think. So, I suppose we should just wait and not update to any kernel above 6.7.

Wrong, you are running an integrated intel GPU + the discrete amd GPU .

That's the cause of the problem, the amd error messages are very likely a consequence of the problems with the intel driver.
Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

Well yeah i was running the iGPU as well at that time. I also reported it here: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/issues/3289
But now it's disabled (i disabled it from the UEFI settings)

If it helps 6.8.9.arch1 with 0001-drm-amdgpu-Adjust-logic-in-amdgpu_device_partner_ban.patch applied:

Ok I have compiled kernel 6.8.9 with that patched applied and it seems it works. I was able to boot.
Congratulations on the fix and building the kernel yourself.
