Has anyone with an Intel Core Duo got lm_sensors to work?

I keep getting a message about no sensors being found.  I've followed the wiki, but I just can't seem to get it to work for my Core Duo.

If you have got it to work, can you please let me know which modules sensors-detect told you to load?

Re: Has anyone with an Intel Core Duo got lm_sensors to work?

This would be motherboard specific, not processor specific.  What kind of mobo/PC do you have?  I'd get that info and hit google.  That being said, since I don't have a core duo (I prefer to stay on the bleeding edge of yesterday's technology - it's a lot cheaper) I'm not sure if there is an known issue with core duos and lm_sensors.  Do *any* sensors on your mobo work?

Re: Has anyone with an Intel Core Duo got lm_sensors to work?

I have a laptop (Alienware Area-51 m5550) so I don't know the type of sensor chip.
I did look at the lm-sensors home page and, following the links, it suggests the Core Duo is supported by the version of lm_sensors in the Arch repos.

Some sensors appear to work.  My conky reports a CPU temperature (where it gets it from I don't know).  SuperKaramba also reports my nVidia's GPU temperature (again, I don't know where it gets it from).  I would really like to get lm_sensors working because then (maybe) I could really improve the information in my conky.

Alienware® Intel® 945PM + ICH7 Chipset

its a start.....

GPU is not related to mobo so its more likely from nvidia-settings

Stupid question - you *are* running sensors-detect as root, right?

Yes.  I am running sensors-detect as root.  It told me to load 3 modules only:

i2c-i801
lm90
eeprom

which I have loaded.

And the entrance to this forum says there is no such thing as a stupid question! smile

your best bet is to join sensors mailing list & ask there.... its how I got mine working ....

Re: Has anyone with an Intel Core Duo got lm_sensors to work?

Thanks.  I scanned the lm-sensors mailing lists and found out what I think is the cause of my problem:

I don't have the coretemp.ko kernel module.

Duh!  Where can I get this from?

Re: Has anyone with an Intel Core Duo got lm_sensors to work?

I have it working on my new system.

I tried to just build the driver for beyond but it would not work so I found a patch and rebuilt the kernel.  An updated patch has now been sent to iph for inclusion in -beyond.

I then built lm_sensors-svn from the AUR and low and behold:

[lm_sensors-svn]: sensors

Adapter: ISA adapter
VCore: +1.34 V (min = +0.00 V, max = +1.74 V)

in5: +1.58 V (min = +2.04 V, max = +2.04 V) ALARM
in6: +5.07 V (min = +4.58 V, max = +6.48 V)
VSB: +3.22 V (min = +4.08 V, max = +4.08 V) ALARM
VBAT: +3.23 V (min = +4.08 V, max = +4.08 V) ALARM

Sys Temp: +33°C (high = -69°C, hyst = -70°C) ALARM
CPU Temp: +44.0°C (high = +80.0°C, hyst = +75.0°C)
AUX Temp: +45.0°C (high = +80.0°C, hyst = +75.0°C)

coretemp-isa-0000
Adapter: ISA adapter
temp1: +42°C (high = +85°C)

coretemp-isa-0001
Adapter: ISA adapter
temp1: +43°C (high = +85°C)

So, yes, it works but it might a little while before all the support is available mainline.
