I updated my system and it seemed to be only minor updates, however, none of the KDE PIM apps (KMail, Akregator, Kontact) work anymore. They all freeze upon launch and then I have to terminate the app because it's not responding.
I've checked Akonadi and it says it's all fine. Did a file system check, vacuum, no problem. Restarted with --verbose and shows no real errors, everything up and running. I also got a notification popping up in the system tray about a new email.
When I start KMail or Kontact from the CLI, I don't see any real errors, except this message:
kf.windowsystem: KWindowInfo is only functional when running on X11
I'm running the latest KDE Plasma 6, so I'm on Wayland. But that shouldn't be a problem since I've been running it since it came out.
I also tried to downgrade some packages, to no avail. From the Pacman log, I can see these packages were updated:

Any ideas what I could try? There are no useful messages about missing libraries etc. in journalctl, so the only thing I have to go on is the 'KWindowInfo' message quoted above.

Package update from not an hour ago. Installed it, still doesn't solve my issue, so might be a different issue, but it does refer to 'crashing'.

Hi, I'm able to replicate being unable to open Kmail since updating to Plasma 6.0.3 Wayland. I've just switched to trying opening Kmail in Plasma 6.0.3 X11 and indeed could open Kmail. I'm using a Nvidia 3060.
Could you replicate as to if you also can open on Plasma X11? And also maybe specify your GPU.
Something relevant I've found whilst trying to have fixed this Kmail nonsense was https://www.mail-archive.com/kde-bugs-d … 06096.html, but the most recent suggestion on disable GPU has not worked for me in Plasma Wayland.

Hi, good to hear I'm not the only one facing this issue!
I've got a NVIDIA RTX 4070, so we're pretty much in the same boat on that front.
I don't have the option to switch to a X11 session. I could install the additional packages (I think), but I decided to try downgrading qt6. Because I was triggered by the title of today's commit done for the KMail package:
upgpkg: 24.02.1-2: Rebuild with Qt 6.6.3 to fix crashes
Indeed, as you can see from my Pacman log, all qt6 packages are updated from version 6.6.2-2 to 6.6.3-1. That could explain the reason of the crash and the necessity for the fix.
To find out if this is correct, I downgraded all qt6 packages to 6.6.2-2. Then started KMail, and voila! Everything works fine again.
It does make me wonder why the fix was made if it doesn't really work (like I said, I tried it, even with a restart). And why there were no updates for Kontact, Akregator, etc.
I will try to get the attention of the maintainers/devs to this issue, so it can hopefully be fixed.

Hi, I've just gotten back to my nvidia machine, the recent set of updates pushing qt6-base to 6.7.0 and a few other nvidia packaging updates has solved the issue for me. Could you check if it works for you too?
