KDE 6 2nd Panel Issue [Solved]

Recently installed KDE 6 and moved the stock panel to the top, where I prefer it. I also like a dock and as KDE 6 defaults to Wayland there isn’t a lot of choice available, so I decided to add a 2nd panel at the bottom and configured it to resemble a dock.

Problem is it doesn’t seem to be possible to move the shortcuts I have placed on the bottom panel to the order I would prefer.  They will not move under any circumstances and there is no setting anywhere in the system to move them.

I suppose I could try deleting them one by one and add them back one by one in different places but it seems odd that the stock top panel can accommodate moving shortcuts but the added bottom panel (dock) does not.

Or am I doing something wrong?

Re: KDE 6 2nd Panel Issue [Solved]

Hi Dave,
Are you using icons-only task manager?
That allows you to drag and drop pinned icons in any order - see bottom of pic:

Just right click any panel (in empty space) > enter edit mode > add widgets (option pops up near the panel when in edit mode): find icons-only task manager in the add widgets selection menu,

If you need to shift any widgets around then make sure you're in Edit mode, but icons only task manager allows you to re-arrange icons whenever you like.

Hope that helps.

If you need to shift anything around then make sure you're in Edit mode, that allows you to move icons and widgets ect.

Thanks for your help. I’ll give this a try and report back.

Re: KDE 6 2nd Panel Issue [Solved]

Cool.
I was in the same boat a while ago when Latte Dock went to unmaintained status.
Tried every dock, either didn't like them or they didn't work on Wayland so I tried a standard panel and it worked a treat.

In plasma 6 they work better as they don't maintain a big gap now when windows are maximised and don't need spacers wedging in to maintain symmetry.

It is however still a pain if you want to change the background colour and opacity (beyond turning opacity on and off), my only complaint.

My favourite has always been Cairo Dock even though it is somewhat heavy on resources; however I don’t think it is fully sorted for Wayland yet although it was reported as “partly compatible” . I like the “3d” panel offered and the ability to easily customise it with different icons etc.

There's a plasmoid: plasma colorizer That gives you better options with opacity.  Bear in mind it also does a lot of things I find annoying that you'll have to disable.
