[SOLVED] No Bluetooth on KDE

Hi, I have been sifting through posts about Bluetooth but none seem to be what is happening with my system. I just don't have bluetooth at all. when I click that applet and try to find my bluetooth devices it just scans forever never finding any of them. The same issue on both my Lenovo thinkpad T560 and my HP Pavilion Desktop TP01-2xxx I tried to install the bluedevil package from the arch repo and I tried to completely reinstall Arch and KDE and I still don't have Bluetooth. can someone please point me in the right direction.

Re: [SOLVED] No Bluetooth on KDE

You state you have no Bluetooth on KDE.  It looks like Bluetooth does not work at all.   Let's start with the basics.

What are the output of lsusb and of lspci
Do the version numbers reported by uname -a and pacman -Q linux match? (Change the second command as appropriate if you are not using the stock kernel)

Re: [SOLVED] No Bluetooth on KDE

lsub- command not found and lspci has a lot of output, Im not sure exactly what I should be looking for but I don't see anything that refers to bluetooth specifically just the Renoir Radeon High Definition Audio Controller and other Audio related stuff. my WiFi adapter and things like that. I am running Kernel version 6.8.7-arch1-1 (64-bit)

Re: [SOLVED] No Bluetooth on KDE

Also this is a fresh install. after I tried to install the bluedevil package and that did not work I reinstalled Arch and decided that I will probably do more damage than good with out some help.

Re: [SOLVED] No Bluetooth on KDE

I think you may have fat fingered the first command

lsusb

It lists all the devices on the USB buses.  If not, you need to install usbutils   The second command shows all the devices on the PCI bus.

I am trying to determine what your Bluetooth controller is.  It is likely on the USB bus.  It could be part of your WiFi card on the PCI bus.
It does not matter which version of the kernel you are running provided it matches the one that is installed.  If it is not, the running kernel will not be able to load dynamic kernel modules.  So, both the running kernel (uname -a) and the installed kernel (pacman -Q) do match?

Re: [SOLVED] No Bluetooth on KDE

Looks promising.  Have you worked your way through this article down to 1.1.1 :  https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/bluetooth
In particular, I want to get you set up to run bluetoothctl.  Everything up to that point is a prerequisite.

Re: [SOLVED] No Bluetooth on KDE

ok, I guess I read something wrong before, I was under the impression that bluedevil was the only thing I needed. but that is not the case? I also need the bluez and bluez-utils?

Re: [SOLVED] No Bluetooth on KDE

Required?  I am not sure.  Plasma and Gnome may be able to handle BT on their own.  But, the tools do not conflict and bluetoothctl is an excellent tool.

Re: [SOLVED] No Bluetooth on KDE

Bluetooth is not started. Just start it using:

sudo systemctl enable bluetooth.service
sudo systemctl start bluetooth.service
