Mplayer, move fullscreen picture down

Playing a widescreen movie fullscreen results in the picture in the middle of the screen, with black bars of equal size above and below. Does anybody know a way to move the picture to the bottom of the screen, so there's no black bar at the bottom, and the top bar would be bigger? (Without playing it non-fullscreen and moving/resizing its window.)

Check the mplayer manpage for the expand filter. It can do what you want.

Re: Mplayer, move fullscreen picture down

Thanks. Fiddling about with the expand filter almost helped, in that I got the picture to move up the screen, but not down, let alone anywhere near the bottom.

Re: Mplayer, move fullscreen picture down

I know it's been almost exactly 12 years, but so as to find it here (just as I was directed here by Google, and probably I will look here the next time too), I fished this eventually out from the source code: -border-pos-y instructs mplayer where to put the film: 0 being top, 1 being bottom, .5 being the default.
