Screen freezes without keyboard input

Hi everyone,

My screen keeps freezing after what seems like a set interval, and everything goes back to normal with a keypress. It's pretty annoying when playing games on a controller, as I have to constantly be reaching to the keyboard to unfreeze the screen. I initially thought this was from xscreensaver, but the problem persists after disabling it. Has anyone run into this before and knows what's going on?

I'm running X11 with AwesomeWM on a Ryzen 5 5600x and RTX 3060 if that's relevant.

That sounds a lot like some screensaving issue.

xset q
ps aux # for suspicious processes next to xscreensaver

after what seems like a set interval

Can you qantify that in minutes or seconds (at least approximately)?
