I should add that I forced a reinstall of both Epiphany and Epiphany-Extensions and still Epiphany crashes.

I checked Flyspray and did not find anything on a Epiphany problem?

Anyone have any ideas? Do I need to open a bug on Flyspray?

Thanks!

Re: [SOLVED] Problems with Epiphany 2.16.2-1 crashing?

do you have some /opt/mozilla/*/xulrunner directory around that is not the latest version? Also, make sure xulrunner is up to date.

Having invalid/outdated pluginreg.dat files in your profile or in one of the xulrunner directories could also be he cause of your problem.

xulrunner also was updated when I did my updates yesterday. I take a look to see if if there is more than one xulrunner directory.

I thought there might be something in my preferences that was the issue, so I went into .gnome2/epiphany and renamed the epiphany directory. My thought was that epiphany would recreate a clean dierctory, which it did. Unfortunately the problem continues.

Looks like I am not the only one (or Arch user) seeing this problem. Gnome's Bugzilla has a few entires with the exact same/similar title to the bug as me. At the bottom of this list:

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/buglist.cgi?p … y=critical

My bug is 383926. 379223, 380556, & 384026 are other Arch users showing a similar problem to me. Bug 380530 SEEMS to indicate it might be a Mozilla bug related to FF 2.0. Interesting to note, I noticed that FF has indeed updated to 2.0 on my system...I thought it was still 1.5.x.

The Gnome Bugmeisters are asking me to run a better backtrace with the debugging symbols. I read the info they provided on how to add the symbol support, but I cannot figure out how to do this on Arch.

http://live.gnome.org/GettingTraces/Dis … structions

How do I add debug support for Epiphany?

In the meantime, I'll take a look at the items you suggested JGC. Thanks!

Re: [SOLVED] Problems with Epiphany 2.16.2-1 crashing?

To get a good backtrace of epiphany, you should rebuild it from /var/abs using "-g" added to the CFLAGS in /etc/makepkg.conf. To make sure makepkg will not strip the package, build it with "makepkg -n" after that. It could be that the generated backtrace is still not sufficient, so you would have to rebuild dependencies like xulrunner, nspr, etc using these settings.

Re: [SOLVED] Problems with Epiphany 2.16.2-1 crashing?

I had this problem as well, but narrowed it down to a couple of the extensions.  It seems whenever I had the Favicon Fallback and/or the Python Console extension active, Ephiphany would crash on startup.  I had to go through gconf to remove them.

Re: [SOLVED] Problems with Epiphany 2.16.2-1 crashing?

Thanks for the post archy!

I was mulling over how I would approach all the package rebuilding JGC noted to get the debug set up. I never tried the new Epiphany without the extensions.

When I get back home on the 16th I'll give your suggestion I try archy and post back.

Re: [SOLVED] Problems with Epiphany 2.16.2-1 crashing?

UPDATE:

Had some time yesterday, so I tried some things to get Epiphany working for me.

Tried archy's suggestions of using gconf to remove the active extensions. I could not get it to work for me.

So, I uninstalled epiphany-extensions, epiphany, and iso-codes. Deleted epiphany folder from within .gnome2. Deleted epiphany folder from .gconf folder. Reboot. Reinstalled epiphany (iso-codes brought back in as a dep). Reinstalled epiphany extensions.

Everything works now (?).

Every extension I have activated (including the java console and favicon fallback) work without crashing epiphany.

Something else I noticed...prior to my complete wipe of every thing epiphany related, when I would install epiphany-extensions the menu item 'Tools' was NOT being created. After my wipe and reinstall, the 'Tools" menu item is present.

I would guess I had some weird problem with my preferences, but I had renamed the .epiphany folder before to force a new, clean, folder to be created. This did not solve the problem.

Not sure what exactly I did, but hopefully this might provide some insight to the issue.

Re: [SOLVED] Problems with Epiphany 2.16.2-1 crashing?

You removed Epiphany 2.16.2-1 then did an update to reinstall? I'm just curious, did the update install the original version or the newer one 2.16.2-2. Going by your posting dates I think you updated to the newer version which maybe why it's now working.

This problem started for me when Epiphany updated to 2.16.2-1. The problem continued exactly the same after I updated Epiphany to version 2.16.2-2. After the upgrade to 2.16.2-2, I then removed epiphany, the extensions, the config files, rebooted, and reinstalled as noted above.

My guess is something to do with the something in the epiphany config file(s) in .epiphany and/or .gconf.

OK Thanks, My problem which was similar, fixed itself when I updated to the latest version, had me pulling my hair out trying to work out a solution until the update
