Howdy guys,
I decided to wipe out my lappy just for fun (things were getting too
cluttered to bother with). I use rox panels, but forgot how to mount
usb devices simply by clicking on their mount points. Will somebody
please remind me? I just don't remember how I got it working the
first time, and searching yields nothing.
thanks!

Have you tried making a "shortcut" (Drag'n'Drop from /mnt) onto the desktop?

nope, I've never really used the desktop for anything but a background image. A rox panel is always on my screen with directories, though. I used to be able to click on /mnt/usbthing as a user, and it would mount and show usbthing. I have pmount, and ivman, but maybe not configured correctly. I'll go investigate those more thoroughly.

Rox looks in your fstab for mounting directories, once you click on that directory then it mounts it. Simply add the entry fstab like so:
/dev/sdd1 /media/usb-stick auto rw,user,noauto 0 0Offline
I once had the same problem. What I did was to make fstabe readable by users, that made rox automount
