[SOLVED] HTML view is blanked for WebKit GTK+ Software under X11

This appears to be a mainstream issue.

See https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 8#p2170498

###

Good day everyone!

This issue haas been occurring for almost a month or so.

Software like Atril (only for ePUB), BadWolf, Liferea, Luakit, Marker, and other GTK+ software that use WebKit, have a blanked HTML view.

However, on Wayland, HTML view is displayed as intended.

Tested on i3 (X11) and Sway (Wayland).

Blanked visually only or is the page just not rendered at all (ctrl+u)?
Please post your Xorg log, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Xorg#General
Does

LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1 browser

avoid the issue?

Yes

LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1 liferea

has solved this problem!

Thank you!

Do you still want me to post Xorg log?

Yes.
The enviroment makes you using a software GL implementation, you're not getting any HW acceleration and that's perhaps a wider issue you'd like to address.

Re: [SOLVED] HTML view is blanked for WebKit GTK+ Software under X11

Do you (still) have LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1 exported (globally)?
Or did the previous error just fix itself?

You've a GeForce GT 1030 and are running the modesetting driver on the nouveau kernel module - do you intentionally not use the binary nvidia driver?

Re: [SOLVED] HTML view is blanked for WebKit GTK+ Software under X11

Yes, I have LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1 exported at file .bashrc

# Blank HTML View on Xorg
export LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1

I am sorry for neglecting to mention this.

are running the modesetting driver on the nouveau kernel module

What does it mean?

do you intentionally not use the binary nvidia driver?

I suppose I am, though I am open to any advise on that matter.

Re: [SOLVED] HTML view is blanked for WebKit GTK+ Software under X11

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA
Because of an ongoing bug w/ the 550xx drivers that seems to cause a corrupted kernel space (ie. kernel crashes) you might want to opt for https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/nvidia-535xx-dkms

Generally speaking, the nvidida binary drivers will outperform nouveau (and probably not cause these kind of GL errors) - the export in your bashrc means right now you're rendering everything on the CPU.

Re: [SOLVED] HTML view is blanked for WebKit GTK+ Software under X11

I have installed nvidia-535xx-utils after getting this message:

Cloning into 'nvidia-535xx-dkms'...
warning: You appear to have cloned an empty repository.
==> ERROR: PKGBUILD does not exist.

How do I enable that driver and disable nouveau?

Re: [SOLVED] HTML view is blanked for WebKit GTK+ Software under X11

the nvidia-535xx-utils package build will give you multiple packages one of them being the dkms variant, install all of them.. in effect:

sudo pacman -U nvidia-535xx-dkms nvidia-535xx-utils lib32-nvidia535xx-utils

(you'll have to give the actual file paths. make sure the header packages of the kernels you want to use are installed (e.g. linux-headers and/or linux-lts-headers) and friends.

If you've added the nvidia modules to your initramfs you might have to regenerate it, nouveau should get blacklisted by nvidia-535xx-utils.

@RedArcher, you seem to have cloned the wrong git url.

git clone https://aur.archlinux.org/nvidia-535xx-utils.git

Seth, yes, because I have attempted to clone nvidia-535xx-dkms instead.

Re: [SOLVED] HTML view is blanked for WebKit GTK+ Software under X11

You've two kernels (linux and linux-zen) but only installed the headers for linux.

0: +*None-1 1024/271x768/203+0+0 None-1

This was the simpledrm device because nouveau was/is blacklisted but apparently the nvidia kernel module didn't load.

Re: [SOLVED] HTML view is blanked for WebKit GTK+ Software under X11

That server ran on the simpledrm device, this morning at 06:12:00 your time (SAST, I guess?)
Is it the latest one?
Please post your complete system journal for the boot:

sudo journalctl -b | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.st

Re: [SOLVED] HTML view is blanked for WebKit GTK+ Software under X11

Yes. Correct.

http://0x0.st/XXIS.txt

After i3 is up, I execute the following command:

xrandr --output HDMI-0 --mode 1920x1080 --rate 60

P.S. What does SAST mean?

Re: [SOLVED] HTML view is blanked for WebKit GTK+ Software under X11

May 04 19:52:10 workstation kernel: [drm] Initialized simpledrm 1.0.0 20200625 for simple-framebuffer.0 on minor 0
May 04 19:52:10 workstation kernel: simple-framebuffer simple-framebuffer.0: [drm] fb0: simpledrmdrmfb frame buffer device

Enable https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA … de_setting - use the "nvidia_drm.modeset=1" kernel parameter (modprobe.conf won't do!)

The nvidia module loads, but it's 535xx, do you have the matching nvidia-utils or is nvidia-utils from 550xx?
(Otherwise I don't really understand how you ended up w/ running on the simpledrm device)

pacman -Qs nvidia

and please also post the updated xorg log after adding the kernel parameter.

SAST is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Afr … ndard_Time

Re: [SOLVED] HTML view is blanked for WebKit GTK+ Software under X11

I guess only 535xx as there is no 550xx in the repositories.

Re: [SOLVED] HTML view is blanked for WebKit GTK+ Software under X11

Don't "guess", look

pacman -Qs nvidia

https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x8 … dia-utils/ is currently 550.78

Re: [SOLVED] HTML view is blanked for WebKit GTK+ Software under X11

# modprobe nvidia_drm.modeset=1
modprobe: FATAL: Module nvidia_drm.modeset=1 not found in directory /lib/modules/6.8.8-arch1-1

Do I need to add the module handling manually?
