mesa, libgl-dri and xf86-video-ati update?

Do you have any information when Mesa, libgl-dri and xf86-video-ati packages will be updated?
They are marked outdate, but nothing happens with them.
Can I help somehow with update?

There are some serious improvements in new versions.
For example on current drivers you can't use Blender correctly - you will notice rendering errors in selection mode, it's already fixed in new Mesa.

That's not the point, I can compile it from CVS/git myself. But end-users should have fresh versions installed, it's much better.

I tried to submit it as a bug but it was removed. I see no other ways to communicate this. Why developers are not interested in updating these packages if this is so easy and so helpful? sad

Re: mesa, libgl-dri and xf86-video-ati update?

Easy? Fast? mesa is anything you can think about, except a stable API, they change things all the time.
For example:
- update libgl-dri to 6.5.2 -> in a breeze, no problems
- update mesa to 6.5.2 -> I have to take the DRI config now, the regular x86 config doesn't work and breaks with a linking error with duplicate symbols. How easy?
- update xorg-server to match installed mesa version -> just like with 6.5.1, I have to dive into git and get a new patch so it builds with 6.5.2.
- update all drivers to use 6.5.2 -> most drivers will work, but some require new libdrm, and what's more important: a new kernel module which is not in our standard kernel...

I've got about 80 packages outdated and I'm limited in time. I'm catching up a lot these days since I don't have to work at this moment, but mesa isn't just something I like to do at times when I only have one hour of available time. Same for GStreamer, those things take time to do it good. Flagging things as outdated is enough, the bugtracker is only for bugs. When we get the time to do it, we'll update it, not before.

Re: mesa, libgl-dri and xf86-video-ati update?

I just back home, installed updates and Blender bug was still there.

So I downloaded Mesa-6.5.2, compiled it, copied r300_dri.so to xorg directory and bug disappeared.

I will submit bug report, hope this time it won't be removed :-(
