is there an application to colorize B&W photos?

It seemed to exist but I can't find anything that does it. It might have been in windows, I just don't know. Thanks.

Thanks seth, I have used the online services somewhat but also have used some sort of program/application (probably GIMP or Photoshop, etc.) but I couldn't find the option in GIMP. Just trying to see what is out there.

In Gimp, there's an menu option...

colors ==> colorize

... but it's more like tinting.

nb. that any kind of local solution is gonna require some decent HW - if you're sitting in front of an office notebook and wonder what your ancestors would maybe have looked like, you're looking from some online service.
