For those of you who are eagerly waiting for 10.9.2 jellyfin-{server,web} and are impatient (like myself) I created a split PKGBUILD which outputs both. I am not going to upload this to the AUR because given that the packages are in Extra that would be against the rules, but considering it's a big rewrite considering upstream significantly changed how they package it may be longer than usual for us to see an official build.
Use at your own risk.

At the same time, the jellyfin-media-player on AUR has moved on, because those guys point it at docker instances and not the Arch package. It looks like client "1.9.1-7" partially broke compatibility with the jellyfin server in extra. I'm on "1.9.1-5" and decided to stay there. "1.9.1-6" might still work, but -5 was the last version in my cache. You can set jellyfin to use the server provided web server instead of the local package, but I had issues with the later updates, even with the workaround.
Thankfully, everything on the AUR sits in git repos, so going back in time is easy.
Regarding the AUR rules: I think in a scenario like this, an old version breaking compatibility with a newer version should allow for some leeway. Electron apps depend of all kinds of electronXY versions, for example.
However, I am not super impatient here. The jellyfin-media-player doesn't communicate with anything but the server and I don't switch servers often. I'll wait and see what the maintainer of our extra package does and perhaps start talking to him about either adopting the media-player too and/or giving us some guidance on how to solve the issue that a new version breaks compatibility with an old version and how to arrange this on the AUR.
Are you the maintainer of the AUR package before it went to extra, by the way? Your name is vaguely familiar.

@Awebb no I wasn't the old AUR maintainer, I did maintain a couple of packages on the AUR but there were not popular, got very old and there was no reason to maintain them so I removed them. At the moment I'm not maintaining anything. Happy to put it on the AUR but just trying to follow the rules which is why I didn't post it. That said in I did post the link in the jellyfin-media-player discussion.

FYI jellyfin-packaging is now updated to 10.0.3

extra/jellyfin-server 10.8.13-1 10.9.3-1 19,13 MiB 15,91 MiB
extra/jellyfin-web 10.8.13-1 10.9.3-2 -2,93 MiB 30,61 MiB
This happened. I'll update and test.
EDIT: The AUR jellyfin-media-player and the extra server now work together without workarounds. The update messed up my Jellyscrub trickdata handling, but that's hardly the package's fault.

Looks like it's all sorted out and Extra is updated, making my PKGBUILD unnecessary.
