when i try to download and install xarchiver-svn i get an error that the package is corrupted. when i looked at the ftp.archlinux.org i saw that there was a newer version of the package than that found by pacman. and the unstable.db.tar.gz has an older number (or revision or whatever...fix me please) of this package. should the database be rebuilt? or the database gets rebuilt on time intervals on unstable repository or what? confused archlinux newbie ![]()

depends on the repo you are using.
maybe, the new version has not yet gone stable.
a file is corrupted, this actually can happen. Try to delete the old file you downloaded (/var/cache/packman). If the file is still corrupted after another download (maybe use another mirror if you're not using archlinux.org), then please file a bug report about this. I'm sure the TUs will fix this quite fast then.

Hey, so, i'm back.
I just checked it back. Seems to be the wrong version set in the repository file, so the file on the ftp servers is newer than the one actually brought by the repo.
I filed in a bugreport for this:
http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/6078
Workaround:
Go into any directory as root user (ie /root)
execute the following code:
wget ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/unstable/os/i686/xarchiver-svn-24128-1.pkg.tar.gz
pacman -A ./xarchiver-svn-24128-1.pkg.tar.gzHope it helps,

hmmm...i think there is the same problem with xfdesktop-svn package.

Guess someone forgot to update the repo file.
Just the same procedure for the other package, with the other filename.
Should not be much of a problem for you, just lookup the correct package name in the unstable repo (ftp.archlinux.org).
I agree this is annoying, but i can't help you in this case, i've no rights on unstable (not any at all, i'm a normal user as you are), so i cannot update the repo file, this will need a TU, who actually does this work for us.
